I've been learning in Lake Havasu. The plane is owned by Ted he is like a second father to me. He's known me sense age five. We fly all over place air shows stuff like that. We've even land at Wheelers Ranch... LOL it's in the desert.

CONGRATS!!! Very cool. How'd it go? What were you flying? Be careful, it's addicting. I took my kids up in a Cessna 172 today (I own a Piper Comanche, but it's high performance/complex, and I'm still getting trained for that). We flew from La Verne, to Palos Verdes, down the coast and back to La Verne. Nothing like it! Fly Safe! devil

BTW, nice squeaker on the landing. Especially nice since the camera was rolling. Looks like an exp. plane?

I flew out of Havasu On Sunday, weather was perfect. You will never forget this day, knowing that your security blanket (instructor) was not there is sobering. congratulations, Greg

Congrats.....the first solo is a huge accomplishment. When I did mine, I looked over to the passenger seat and just started laughing.

Congrats, it is a big deal once your off the ground. A quick look in the cockpit and your all alone. Good job and good luck finishing. Stick with it. A lot of people loose interest after the solo.

Sunday A friend called and asked if I wanted to fly to breakfast somewhere? Went to Columbia airport. An old west town from gold rush times. We flew back by way of Yosemite valley, my buddy lived in the valley for 30 years so he knew where to see the waterfalls and canyons, we circled half dome a few hundred feet off - and could see the steps carved in the granite. Also the stakes for the cable for the climbers to help climb the giant rock. It was such a rush ! Some rugged country for sure, my buddy is a past USAF VIP pilot - so i just watched the beautiful park awe.
So Mr new pilot go see and enjoy !

That's what flying is all about (and getting there much quicker than driving ). Btw, I have a 260B and love it. The other day, flew back over Cajon Pass at about 238 mph GS. The 172 is a dog after flying my Comanche.

As for the new pilot, just wait until you do a xc solo. Solo over the desert, really makes you feel alone! It's still fun beyond words. Fly safe. devil

It's Funny i tell some people and it's like OK? no big deal. I guess the only people who get it are the ones that have been there... SOLO or want to be there.... Here is some pictures of the inside of the Plane. It has a glass cockpit... Cool stuff for a little plane.

congrats and good luck for the future. One thing I would recommend is to have your CFI take you to a busy airport. With you flying out of havasu you are dealing with very little traffic. When I fly with friends that use low volume airports when they have to fly into a busy one they tend to get a little nervous. I got my lisense at van nuys, calif and it is one of the busiest in the country. By flying there when I wanted to fly into another city I was used to having lots of traffic around me. I did my solo cross crountry from van nuys to Mc carran international. Again enjoy your newfound freedom and have some fun.

I know we flew into copper state fly-in and it was crazy. Working the radio and picturing in your mind where everyone is around you gets stressful.

 

I had the luck in the mid eighties to upgrade what I flew and went around the country and landed at alot of busy airports, from Miami International to La Guadia, in New York. As long as you listen to approach control and then the tower you just do what they say and pay close attention and you will be fine. I have landed on the parallel runway at san fransisco flying a 402 cessna with a 727 jet landing along side me at the same time. If you are learning at havasu do a cross country with him to Mc Caren in vegas or fly to any major airport in los angeles. Flying around with large traffic is good for you to learn and feel at ease with

 

Congrats on the solo. I got my license in 1994 and just got my instrument rating this October (only took 14 years) and I have never lost the enthusiasm for flying. I hate to tell you this, but you are now hooked on one of the most expensive habits (this side of cocain and hooker addiction) ever created by man. Good luck and happy flying.
