Oven cleaner worked for me

 

I also used easy off. Spray on, wait 15 minutes, wipe off. Don't wet sand unless you want a lot more buffing ahead of you (I made that mistake first)

Sand off with some 2000 grit and buff!

 

My boat had CF #'s painted on when I got it new 17 years ago. After I received a bill for "luxury tax", I decided to re-register it in Arizona. It's been registered in AZ ever since.

Anyway, I did the Easy Off method to remove the CF numbers 16 years ago or so with no ill effects to the gel coat. Like has been stated, let it sit for 15 minutes and wipe off......

soft moist towel, and dab some acetone on it... (lightly!)

 

How do we know it's really your boat and that you didn't steal it?

 

Let the person who is painting the new #s remove the paint.
I like to leave it to the professionals

Easy off, cover and protect the trailer frame incase it drips.

 

Yep, protect area with plastic, spray on oven cleaner, let sit 5 min, scrape with credit card, spray again, let sit 10 minutes, wipe off with cloth.....done

 

Thanks for all the replies. I thought twice about it and figured I would have a professional do it. Scott from Letter, Lines and Designs is going to take care of it for me this Saturday. I have to get the house back in order after the snow birds left.

Easy Off took a little bit of it off mine, but I ended up having to wet-sand.
